FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long is a TEC weekend and what does it cost?
A TEC weekend is three days (9 a.m. Saturday morning – late Monday afternoon 4:30-5 p.m.). The cost is $75; however, if a young adult is unable to afford the weekend, scholarships are available. Contact us if you have questions.
Is this a co-ed experience?
No. Each weekend is gender-specific so the young adults can feel at ease in sharing their high school and early college challenges. Though all young adults share common experiences, there are gender-specific differences. There is a working team who supports the TEC weekend, and that team is co-ed. Leadership and security are in place to monitor their activities throughout the weekend.
Where is the Northwest TEC weekend held?
The TEC weekends are held at the Believers Together Center at Christ the King Church – 3209 60th St, Moline, IL
How do I learn more details about the weekend?
Once your young person has submitted his/her application, you will receive a letter providing more details along with permission slips/forms that must be completed and provided on Saturday morning when he/she arrives for the weekend. If you have questions before submitting your application, please contact us.
What if my son/daughter has school on Monday?
Some weekends may land on a holiday weekend (i.e., Presidents’ Day, Columbus Day), but most Mondays will be on a school day. Have your son/daughter talk to his/her teachers to plan ahead for any tests/homework, and then contact the administrative office that morning to notify them of their absence.
Can an adult attend a TEC?
Absolutely. We do suggest you not attend the same weekend as your son/daughter so that each of you can feel free to express your thoughts, ideas and feelings. As much as parents would love to share this experience with their son/daughter, this is an opportunity for him/her to begin to find and define their own faith life. If you would like to attend an adult-type retreat, Cursillo is available in the Quad City area.
How do I register my son/daughter?
Register your son/daughter here. Make sure to select Submit when complete.
What does my son/daughter need to bring?
Your registration letter will include more details, but a few things include comfortable clothing, bedding, and bathroom items. One nice outfit is needed for Mass on Sunday; we ask young ladies to consider clothing that allows them to sit on the floor (i.e. no short skirts). What not to bring? Phones, watches, MP3 players, cameras, and the like. Cash is not needed on the weekend; TEC apparel will be for sale at the end of the weekend. View available TEC apparel here.
What phone number can I call if I need to contact my daughter/son?
If you need to reach your teen, please call 309-762-4634, ext 213. This will ring our kitchen, and we will get your message to your teen.
What can I expect from my son/daughter when he/she arrives home on Monday afternoon?
Teens and young adults respond in many ways after a weekend. They may still be reflective in their thoughts, want to share everything about the weekend (or not), be energetic and ready to change some habits, or want to spend the rest of the night reaching out to their new friends. Give them a few days for the “dust to settle”. They may have more clarity about what they just experienced and better able to share it with you. This is a highly personal experience so their encounter with Christ may not be the same as another sibling, friend or relative.
How can I participate on a TEC weekend?
Adults may attend a TEC weekend as an adult observer (candidate) or adult presenting team member. To register as an adult:
